Asuka Sakurada, President

Japan federation of service & tourism industries Workers’ unions

 

​After serving as an executive in the labor union of the Imperial Hotel, currently working with the Service Federation, an industrial labor union comprising colleagues from the hospitality, travel, and international air cargo industries. The organization is dedicated to improving working conditions, promoting gender equality, implementing policies, and enhancing the status of workers. It strives to create an attractive and sustainable industry through its ongoing initiatives.

Dr. Hiroi Iwahara, University of the Sacred Heart, Japan

​

Hiroi Iwahara is a lecturer in the Department of Human Relations at the University of the Sacred Heart. She earned her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Tokyo in 2018. Her research focuses on tourism and cultural heritage in Indonesia. She is the author of the monograph “Making Village Ecotourism: Tourism Development and Everyday Life in Bali” (Fukyosha, 2020, in Japanese), for which she received encouragement awards from the Japan Society for Tourism Studies and the Japan Society for International Development.

Prof. dr. Can Seng Ooi, University of Tasmania, Australia

​

Can-Seng Ooi is a distinguished sociologist at the University of Tasmania, where he serves as the Head of the School of Social Sciences and Professor of Cultural and Heritage Tourism. With a career spanning over three decades, Can-Seng has made significant contributions to the field of tourism studies. His research addresses a wide range of issues, including the moral limits of the tourism market, the use of tourism resources for community development, the touristification of communities, and workers' rights in the hospitality industry. Can-Seng's work is truly global, encompassing research in Australia, Antarctica, Europe (notably Denmark and Sweden), and Asia (including Singapore, Malaysia, and China). A dedicated Bakhtinian, he is deeply engaged in the critical tourism studies arena, bringing a unique perspective to his work. For more information, please visit www.cansengooi.com

Abstract Submission
An abstract between 300 to 500 words (excluding references) should be submitted to be presented at one of the sessions below. The abstract should include the session number and name, an indication of the research aim, the (inter)disciplinary approach taken, the methods used and the key (expected) findings.  The abstract should be submitted as an MS Word document to both Erdinç Çakmak Cakmak.e@buas.nl and Rami K.
